Hey Rob,

Isn't the Blue eyed Panaque the same as Panaque Suttonorum.
If so I saw some on Sparkees fish list, on Sales and wants.

Regards,
Des.

Hi Des

Apparently not. The blue eyed panaque is panaque cochliodon, which is now virtually extinct in it's original habitat. It can now be found in certain other areas which are owned by various cartells and viretually inaccessible.

Panaque Suttonorum was often mistaken for the blue eyed panaque, but is far more available on the market, and in plentiful supply in the wild.

The guy has been offered over 750, SO FAR, AND RISING!!!

I know what you mean though, it is certainly a cheaper equivalent!!!

Hi Des,

Panaque suttonorum(L191) looks like this: http://www.transfish.de/LCode/L191.jpg

I have only ever seen one of the legendary blue eyed panaques in the flesh on one occasion. It was about five years ago in one of my LFSs, he had just been traded in by his owner because he had become too aggressive and was literally tearing his other plecs apart. Personally I would have kept him and got rid of the other fish. He was being sold for £350 and I was seriously tempted, I must have spent about half an hour just staring at him. I eventually decided to settle for 3 zebras instead, I went back a few days later for the last zebra and noticed that the blue eyed panaque had gone. I enquired about him and found out that he had been bought by one of the members of staff the same afternoon he was traded in.

Here are a few more links, the first one is a particularly interesting article on a breeding attempt. Excuse the english in the other links, one of them offers a couple of explanations for their virtual disappearance from most of the Rio Magdelena.

I'm prepared to second that. A quick whip round from everyone who has gained something (or a huge amount in my case) from this website should secure it.

Unfortunately there's no amount of money I could give Rob that would repay him for the amount of help I've had from his forum. So as a thankyou to Rob I'm prepared to donate £70 to his blue eyed panaque fund, total so far £120. :D All I ask for in return is regular pictures of the fella if he manages to get him.

Hi Guys.... Got to say you're making me all sentimental. But, save your money, for your zebs  . If you really want to donate some money to a worthy cause, Watch this space over forthcoming months. There will hopefully be a way, ( if all goes to plan), that you can help the little critters and many more like them in the wild!!!!!

Watch this space, (once again)

Once again,,..cheers guys, but alot of what has been gained on this site is from people like yourselves.

Rob

I'm not actually sure if they have an L Number, as strange as this may seem!!. However if they are called Panaque Cochliodon, then it should be the same fish. Have alook through the Planetcatfish catelog under panaque cochliodon to see if they match.

What size are the fish?

Cheers Andy. Any chance of you getting some pics?

AndyApps

Which lfs is that?

I wouldn't mind having a look at them myself as I've never actually seen one in the flesh. I could get some pics too, which I'm sure would please everyone.

Cheers
