I shall go back to the drawing board & remove the sand at the weekend, does anyone know if Planaria can live in external filters?, I have read they can live in internal box filters.

Found this while looking may be of some use they don't like sunlight so my guess is they can live in canister pumps.
They say they are carnivores so a start maybe to stop feeding meaty food for now.
Other than that don't know what to do here is a link.

I have the same problem with planaria as you have
, i have had them for 8 weeks now in my 400lt bare bottom breeding tank and yes thay do live in external filters. I have lost 8 spawns up to now, eggs go white in colour same as yours 
. I have used Kusuri wormer plus unfortunately it dose not kill them. Planaria are nematodes, if you have a closer look in your tank you can see teeny white larvae moving around. I have 7 tetras 5 otose and 25 Zebras in the tank and they do feed on the planaria, but planaria reproduce fast. I don`t over feed, so the planaria feed on fish poo etc. SERA make a wormer called Nematol witch kills nematodes unfortunately the Zebras will not like it and i`m reluctant to use it. So at the moment i`m stuck with wat to do to get rid of the littel sh..s, meds my be the only answer .

I only get to see them when I do a water change, when I disturb things, so I don't think I have many but I don't know how many live in my filter?
You say you are running bb so I may not gain from doing this, I suppose even if I clean & sterilise the tank, they will still be in the water & in the filter & the only way is to swap filters from another tank that isn't infected, but then I will need a spare filter & may still not get rid of them!
I have read even bleach doesn't kill them, so they must be tough little buggers, I suppose zebra tanks are ideal for them as they don't like sunlight, I will keep on doing more water changes & won't be defeated, it must be the Yorkshire water!

3rd spawn of 2010, eggs laid Wed night/Thurs morning, male sitting tight at the back of the cave, had a little peep & the eggs looking good hopefully they will hatch in a day or 2. 
I never did get around to stripping the tank or going bare bottom, but I did carry on doing regular water changes & I did introduce 8 tetra's which was Grubbygirls advice, which may of been the answer? Thanks.
