We all know how difficult it is to identify the sex of these fish, so please post a picture in here and we'll try to help you (or at least give an educated guess!).
Well thats not bad news, as he has just taken a cave for himself away from the dominant male and right away from the agro male who belts everything except the dominant male.
Its not a bad spot and he gets good current there as well. He should settle in and be happy there.
I lost this one yesterday and I am still trying to figure out why it died.
It could have been from fighting as its sides where always quite scratched.
It may have found a dead spot in the tank beside one of the caves and eaten something off like a dead glass shrimp so I have moved the cave in a bit to allow more flow.
I have a large dw in the tank and I use low ph rainwater so maybe the dw has pulled the ph down too far? I will be using higher ph town water to do wc for a while in the future.
The usually water perams are fine, no ammonia, no nitrites, nitrates 5 to 10.
The other 4 adults and the little 3.5cm juvi are all fine and acted in their usual disgusted manner (flicking their tails and such) when I uncovered they hidey spots to check them.
Must have just been a one off as the others are still all fine.
I did take out the biggest dw and replaced it with a couple of slate tiles over the caves as it might have really been pulling the ph down.
I also took the sponge off the canister intake and got rid of the glass shrimp. The high tank temp longterm just doesn't agree with shrimp.
There was a lot of gunk trapped under the sponge so I siphoned it all out and did partial wc.
Frozen food is off the menu for a while and they will just have to get used to Hikari sinking wafers as I can put them very close to the caves and a bit of 1mm Spectrum fussy feeder pellets with the garlic in to improve their digestion.
