Update time... the 2nd spawn was lost to fungus within a couple of days :(

but as of yesturday we have our 3rd spawn :).

I'm leaving them to it this time - I'm considering taking the large bit of bog wood out and replacing it with lots of slate arrangements and jave fern tied to big bit in the back to break it up - that way there is a lot less places for crap to gather.

On a side not - the 2 we have left from the first spawn are getting big :) (in a relatively small way)... I'll get some piccys up :)

well done :D i'm not sure I would start rearranging the tank while the male sits on eggs though ;)

Good that you have decided to leave the fry with the dad this time. That way you'll gain experience on the pro and cons of both methods!

Good luck!

I left Dad do his stuff the first time... got 15 fry...

Took the eggs out the 2nd time (due to a mistake on my part) and lost the lot to fungus within 3 days...

I'll see how this lot go - I think that once the fry are out I'll rearrange :)

Even when the eggs are fertilized it's very difficult to avoid them being fungused. To have a chanse of succeeding you need a cleaning crew for them, like snails for instance. The right type of snail will eat any dead material and keep the eggs clean.

But the best is in my opinion to leave them with the dad, if at all possible.

Fantastic news! Glad he seems to have figured out what to do properly! I can't wait until my zebras are old enough, assuming I have at least one of each sex of course!

Well.... Strange thing going on in my tank....

since the alpha has been tending his new wigglers (which are getting a little colour now by the way) the spawning female is in another cave... with "Daisy" one of our newer young zebs (the one that is really well coloured in my sig ;))

Looks like someones growing up... even though the female is about an inch longer :D

Hi, Great news about the zebs! He's got the hang of looking after the babies 8) I have a question which I hope you might be able to help me with, could you tell me at what age they start spawning? Look forward to any advise, Dawn

ours were about 5 years old when we got them... they have then taken another 18 months to get into the swing of things...

I got back from a long weekend away about 10 mins ago.

first thing I did was check the zebs. There are at least 6 v.young fry in the alphas cave.... along with a new clutch of eggs! I think we must have 2 females.... the other is still trapped by the betta male in a different cave!
