2nd spawn ?!

hi

i think last night i had my second spawn. now the big wildcought male is in the cave with the eggs. 2 month ago this pleco had his first spawn, but i think he ate the eggs. it have been fourteen

so what should i do now? try again and give the wildcought a second chance or get them into separation ?!

hi guys..

bad news

i found 3 grubs outside the cave and pulled them into the cave back. no chance. 5 minutes later they were outside again. then i put them into separation, but next day they were dead

i think it was a problem of the temperature, too. the grubs enclosed after only 4 days, perhaps because of the 31°c in the tank. They seemed to be not strong enough to survive...

next try...

31 C = 87.8F. I keep my breeding tank between 86 and 87+ and I have gotten many spawns that hatched. I wonder what your water params are?

Also, new to spawning males will sometimes accidentally fan some eggs out of the cave.

Ah, sorry about that

If a wiggler falls out of the cave, it could be because the dad thinks there's something wrong with them, and kicks them out. OR, it could be that the cave needs to be angled a tad backwards to prevent a clumpsy dad from loosing them

Looks to me that he's making progress? He hasn't eaten the eggs this time? Still got some wrigglers in the cave?

thanks for that.

i don`t know how much eggs have been inside the cave before, but at the end the male had a very big stomag. so i think he ate some eggs, but perhaps only the eggs he had problems with etc.

but all in all he is making progress. atm there are no wigglers in the cave anymore... i hope at the 3rd spawn everything will run the right way..

p.s.: sorry for my english, but "wigglers" & Co. is not my all-day-english

It wasn't part of my vocabulary before Zebra either

I think it's supposed to be "wrigglers" (they are wriggling around) though

Good luck with him, if he doesn't shape up next time you might have one of the very few males that just won't get it right.

I'm sure he'll prove to be good though!

wiggle - wriggle both words for the same movement / action
