Fish 'Shed' Is under construction!!

If it's about fish in general, or it's a little bit random, then this is the place to post it.

Fish 'Shed' Is under construction!!

Post by smithrc »

We're busy over the next few weekends so my dad said he'd come round today and we can start the shed :)

Well its of to a great start - and Boy is it bigger than I had pictured in my head!

Its 8ft x 10ft externally so it'll be a bit smaller on the inside but im not happy calling it a shed any more - Its a fish house :D

we started with the floor - everything else is built off of that :D
Its 3x2" timber at 400 centers, 70mm of foam insulation in the air gap, with 25mm chipboard over that.

The walls will be the same construction but with the plastic water proof membrane on the outside (as the outside is actually just the fence. The roof is going to be inulated with the same stuff (3x as good as normal fiberglass - the stuff in your loft) and then 10mm ply over the top with red felt shingles to finish it off.

The roof should be going on tomorrow along with the end pannels.

We need to get hold of the fencing company that is doing the fences round here as we're going to face it with the same wood as the fence.

My dad is a perfectionist and the whole thing is only 1mm bigger at one end and this is called a shed! (2980mm and 2981mm at the other)

anyway - after a very productive day this is what has been happening :)

I was helping, honest - I just stopped to take the pictures :)

Good pictures! :D

I'm sure you have checked but looking at the pictures the floor looks to be sloping? I assume this is not the case and it must be the fence that is not level and this is causing this illusion?

floor is bang on - the fence (and the ground under it) runs up hill to the left ;)

Sorry folks - I've got the same thread going on another forum and forgot the add the updates over here...

At the moment its not going to have that many tanks - It will still have a large role to play as a shed... In my head the far wall will be lined with tanks - at the moment I have 4x 60l 2fts, 1x 180l 4ft and a 125l 33"

The beauty will be that i can just add tanks as I go :) (local tip always has tanks down there - they dont need to be pretty :)

I'm getting there - just taking 5 mins break as its HOT out there today...

I'll post updates tonight (late as i'm out for a meal tonight (its my birthday!)

This is all coming in one go... this is the last 2 days progress...

** Monday **

It started costing money today - 3 sheets of 9mm ply (weather board)
This will form the roof to which the felt will be applied... I have a dilema on this one, We were going to use shingles on the roof (felt 'tile strips') they are £14 a pack and we will need 4 to cover the roof. - that will be £56... or I can pay a roofer £100 to get it properly felted and tar'ed...
Not sure what to do as I am currently broke.

We got one end in tonight too (with the door way in place and every thing)

Here are the piccys...

** Tuesday **

I've been busy today - The main problem has been the insulation - I wanted to use the foil foam sheets that are 3x better than the normal fiberglass stuff, but they retail at £55 a sheet - and we need 10... I'd spotted someon the site but didnt want to steal it so I asked the site forman about the insulation... "Help your self" he said :D

I'm now 90% insulated and just need to put the rear wall in and insulate it and its almost done :D :D

So... the latest update with piccys...

All the walls are in.
All the membrane is in.
90% of the insulation is in

Just need the door building and hanging and before the plasterboard goes in I need to decide if I want to run the electrics round the walls or weather to be neat (like I'd prefer) and run them in the walls.... If i run them external I can always add and extend easily so i think I'll do that for the mains but the lights (as in shed lights - not tnak lights) I'll run in the ceiling.

I've decided to go with the felt and tar roof.

All that needs to be sorted now is the door, the electrics and panel the ends

Ask and you shall recieve :)

I'm considering extraction and venting from the garage - the air in there will stay cooler than ambient as it shaded etc - hopefully it wont be a problem. the heaters will just stop needing to heat the tanks...

What temp does yout room sit at?

Looks fantastic. That will be quite some set-up.

Let me know when you need info on pipework and filters, I've got some drawings made up from my 3 teir system, may be of some use to you.

I'm VERY jealous!

Very impresive progress aswell, although looks like you spent a fair bit of time holding the camera!!

Go on, get yourself into one of those phot'os so we know it's you!

Guys, I can confirm that it is Russ's garden that the shed is being built it ;)

But your right, he does seem to be spending rather too much time behind the camera, and not enough actually doing some hard labour !!! :D
