Hi Smithrc,
Nice tank, just a couple of queries though.
All the heater thermostat leaflets that I have read recommend them not to be placed horizontally ????
Are your tubes capped at the back end , so that they can be removed with eggs/fry if required.
With one of your powerheads lower down, do you not find that the food circulates in the water rather than settle on the substrate?
Regards,
Des.

I move the heater like that to avoid them sitting on it... havent come acros not having them horizontal (mind you i dont ever remember reading the instructions) I'll bung it next to the large filter on the left...
Hadn't consodered the food thing.. it gathers in areas and they pick at it there - i normally feed heavier food anyway but might change that now too...

It looks great! I just came to think of a discussion I had a while back, about how the caves should be positioned according to the water flow - and if it made any difference.
After a while it seemed that a pattern arised, where some fish preferred a cave where the flow was comming from the side, others when it came straight into to opening, and others again - from behind.
Porbably just coincidence, as the research material was way to small to say if it means anything, but just in case - how about angling the caves differently according to the current, see which fish prefers which cave - which one does the dominant want? You'll get "good" and "bad" breeding spots/caves out of an experiment like that, could be the winner of the best cave got ready to utilize his find too

Its in one so i'm not sure what i was thinking!!Des wrote:Hi smithrc,
Regarding the heater thermostat, you could always buy a moulded heater /thermostat guard, to prevent the fish getting heater "burn".

Des.

Bump...
just a question of size... the tank is about 820mm long and about 350mm wide... (35us gallons)
there are 5x L129s in there at the moment... hopefully (fingers really crossed) we will be collecting 2 L046's on friday
will they be ok in the same tank (I've replaced all the tubes with slate caves (6 at the moment) I'll make some more during the week wor more places to hide and I'll ad some layering too.
will they be ok?
