ive just checked my tank. the ph is 7.4, ammonia is 0ppm,nitrite is 0ppm but the nitrates are a whopping 160ppm.
i tested the tap water and its also a whopping 120ppm.
is there a way of reducing the nitates in the tap water befor i add it?
im using 50/50 ro and tap
the nitate levels should be between 20 and 40ppm is that correct??
thanks marcus
nitrates
I am familiar with this problem as I suffer from high Nitrates in my tap water.
I now filter the water using Pozzani filters, take a look at www.pozzani.co.uk for more info.

Hi,
If i am not mistaken, these Nitrate filters are resins that are recharaged by using common salt. When they absorb the nitrates they give off the salt into the product water.
sparkee,
One solution with high nitrate water out of the tap is to use 100% RO with added RO mineral salts and KH plus ( as most RO mineral salt mixes do not contain enough kh buffer), which will give nitrate free water.

Des.
