Sometimes you get lucky.....

If it's about fish in general, or it's a little bit random, then this is the place to post it.

Sometimes you get lucky.....

Post by John »

I was browsing on a dutch "for sale" site when i bumped into an ad that said: aquarium for sale including 2 L46 4-6 cm. fish also separate for sale.
Well i tought let's give it a bid, so i bid 75 euro's per fish.
Got an e-mail right away: i could pick em up.
Felt kind a strange but went over there.
When i came there a 80 year old woman and her 50 year old son welcomed me and started telling that the fish were of the husband of the woman who died over a year ago, and the woman couldn't take care of the aquarium anymore.
Well getting suspicious here i asked how long the fish allready were in the aquarium, she said: at least 4,5 years.
I was getting exited now and i was asked to catch the fish myself.
Could hardly believe what i caught in this aquarium.
There was a full grown wildcaught couple! male 9cm. and female 8cm.
Sometimes you get lucky......
Greetings,
John

This lady told me:they were bought in a shop in holland in 2002 at pinkfinger size, the first spawning in an aquarium here in holland took place in 2004.
So i am completely sure they were wildcaught.

John

I am totally confused now.
Just checked my tank and the male was not in place (his cave was completely empty), he was in another cave on the other side of the tank and scarred on one side.
I found 3 eggs/wigglers (they just hatched) in the tank.
Were those eggs/wigglers his? then this means he spawned with one of my females within 36 hours after introducing him to the tank
Any ideas?
Greetings,
John

John
It may be the males first spawn and he's not sure what ihe should be doing, and still has to learn to look after the eggs properly.

I've had two batches of unfertilized/fungused eggs from the same male and i think he will need another couple of attempts before he hopefully gets it right.

How are the wrigglers doing ?

either that or somone has forcibly ejected him from his cave and eated the eggs...

Still It's a good sign that they are happy :)
