Water paramaters at last spawn.

Post by GS »

Hello

I though that I would list the results of my last water test done just after I noticed the new fry. Using a Tetratest kit the results are,

Temp about 29.5 degs C

ph about 7.5

GH about 17

CH about 4

No2 less than 0.3 mg/l

Co2 content shown as low on the graph with the kit.

I think my fish spawned following a good 1/3 water change using half RO and half tap water.

Ten fry seen so far.

I hope this helps someone.

Hi,

Just curious..

Are the Zebs FO?
Have they ever spawned before?
How old?
Was the water a little cooler for your 1/3 water change?
If so what did the temp get down too and how long was the temperature down for?

Peace

Troy

Hi Troy

I don't know what FO means.

My tank has about 15 to18 adult fish in it so I don't know which fish have actually spawned this time but I had three batches of fry in early 2002.

I'm not sure how old the fish are. I have had them at least 5 years and I bought them as adults.

The water went down to about 25 degrees when I did the water change but it heated up to it's normal temp I would guess within two hours. I keep the fish in a Juwel Rio 125 tank / set up with an external Eheim Pro 2 Thermo filter fitted as well so there is quite a bit flow and the thermo heats water quickly when required.

F0

Post by CDNAqua »

Hi GS

F0 is a term for wild caught fish.
F1s are first generation of tank raised/aquarium bred fish.
F2 are the fry from the F1s and so on.

Im guessing they are all FO.. if you had them 5 years and were already adults when you got them.

So that probabaly makes them at least 8 - 9 years old min

Congrats on the spawns! :D

Peace

Congratulations! :D

Troy if you read GS's last response he states that he had fry in 2002 so they could be F1 or F2 fry I believe! ;)

The current fry are from the same group of adults which produced the 2002 fry. They are not from the 2002 fish breading, so I would suggest that as these fish are are so old they were probably wild caught as suggested.
