Let us know how you get on at the lfs. I'm keen to see a blue eye in person so I wouldn't mind visiting it myself.

Hi ANdy

Not too sure , but I would say these are the fish currently being imported as Blue eyed pink panaque.

Unfortunately I'm pretty sure it's not the BLue Eyed Panaque. The overall body colour seems alittle too brown.

Are the eyes actually a blue colour, or more brown.

hi rob,
the eye is a bluey colour but i agree about the overall brown colour.
they are on sale at £40 as blue eyed cochliodon.
maybe i will go buy buy 1 for the sake of it so i can get some decent pics
there are 4 for sale which would be a total of £160 to buy. i could always buy all four and get a positive id after.
How much are the pink ones your talkin about retailing at?

HI ANdy

I think they are retailing at about £35 - £40 so it sounds about right. I am confused however, as they ones I am talking about tend to have slightly brwon eyes.

I'll have a look through the Planet catfish catelog, and get back to you.

cheers

Hi

Not sure about the possible blue-eye as pics too blurred.

Which shop is this, I am heading near to Sheffield this Thurs and can pop in to try and ID them for you.

Cheers

I visited Viscum today and sure enough there was this blue eyed plec in question. The chap I asked said the fish was a blue eyed cochliodon (as was marked on the tank) but to me the fish looked too brown? Its only 3" in length, do these fish go darker as they get larger/older?

I could only see one of these fish today so has Andy taken the plunge?

The L134 is a lovely fish, I was very tempted apart from it is £30!

Hi Tom,

The one that I saw years ago was indeed more of a deep golden brown colour than black. Apparently their colours can vary between brown to an almost inky black, perhaps this is some sort of regional variation. Was the body shape that of a panaque?
