What makes the common person uncommon is common sense.
Don't think they made it back to Xingu...

Don't knock "my" english, it's the best I could get out of the machineIBAMA apprehended yesterday a big quantity of fish you adorn in the airport of Santarém/Equal. The number of animals was estimated in more of thousand. The documentation for the transport of the fish was not presented, neither there are information about their origin. Some species apprehended are threatened of extinction, as the acari zebra (Hypancistrus zebra), endemic in the basin of the Xingu, whose commercialization is prohibited. The responsible one by the illegal shipment was notified and will be sued so soon the fish are counted and all the species identified, what is indispensable for the calculation of the value of the fine.
The fish were packaged in more of 50 polystyrene that would be embarked for São Paulo when were apprehended. Due to the inadequate conditions of transport, the impossibility of return of the animals to his one habitat in a reasonable amount of time and all of the procedures of technical analysis for the release, several of the animals died and will be incorporated to the zoological collections of institutes of education and scientific, for will be utilized in environmental education and research
The donation will be carried out tomorrow (26) in the headquarters of the Ibama in Santarém (Av. Tapajós 2267) between 9 and 11h of the morning. It is important that the educators and researchers interested lead pots of glass with cover and alcohol 70%, for the storage of the fish, beyond label or plaster for annotation of the names of the animals. The idea is going to arrange for the schools and related institutions a small collection of fish you adorn of the region, in order to promote the knowledge of the species and fortify the debate about the implications of the crimes.
It is important highlight that this environmental crime provokes ecological mischief, upon influencing negatively the chain feed and the aquatic ecosystems, as well like economic mischief, upon injuring the activities of ecological tourism in the region.

Most often fish seized by local authorities are usually destroyed. Hopefully since they are indemic to the country seizing them one would hope that they are returned to the wild or at least handed over to scientists for study without destroying the fish. However my trust of Brazil and IBAMA are at a fairly low point so I would bet they are not returned to the wild.
