L46 tank + My Fish Room (New setup updated @2008/1/4)

Hi all, I am from Hong Kong and would like to show you guys my fish
room! Shame that spaces in Hong Kong is pricy , to you guys, this may
only be a joke! But what the hack, let's have a look at what a fish room
would look like in Hong Kong!

I am a South American Dwarf Cichild enthusiast, who also keep Crystal
Red Shrimp and Goldfish (Ranchu). Recently, I got myself "poisoned" in
L46 and have just setup a tank for breeding purpose. However, source
for L46 in Hong Kong is rather rare, I am still haven't get my hand on
any.

I would highly appreicate for any comments on my setup
for improvement.

Just to show you guy some close up of some of the tanks:

I. Adoketa tank: 25"L X 18"W X 14"H

Crystal Red Shrimp tank: 25"L X 18"W X 14"H

Newly setup L46 breeding tank: 25"L X 14"W X 14"H
Filter: Eheim 2211 + Totto + Eheim Aquaball Powerhead 650L/H
I would highly appreicated for any comments for improvement.

Gravel: Seachem Flourite, do you think they are too sharp?

Hi awth-

Your overall setup looks great to me- no joke at all. When it comes to housing and spawning zebras, as you may have noted from reading here, there are different methods embraced by various folks. So all I can offer is to relate what I feel works best based on my experience.

I breed my fish in a bare bottom tank with tons and tons of cover and almost no live plants. I find that at higher temps live plants etc. tend to attract algae more readily than in other tanks. Moreover, in the wild these fish live very deep so there are no plants down there due to minimal light. I would expect there is also very little algae as well.

I believe if one chooses to leave fry in the breeder tank, then it is a must to have a ton of rock and wood cover that easily afford the smallest fish a place to feel secure.

Great looking fishroom, well organised and clean, i like it.
As far as the bottom of the L46 tank is concerned i think it's to sharp, i would go for sand or barebottom.
Personally i have a barebottom tank.

Alrite, after reading the comments from the Pros, including some from the other forum, about the gravel that I am using, I think I am better off to use sand alone indeed. I think it wouldn't be too much of a hassle, as there is nothing in there now.

So, any comment regarding to the other setup? i.e. current, hiding caves positioning?

Hi awth,

For the caves, if I were you, maybe I will not put them next to each other; or at least have some space between two caves.
Generally speaking, the setup looks very nice; zebras will love your setup.

Thank you all, just re-set up the tank with some fine black colour sand, I heard that some some Pro saying "if you have a darker substrate, you will have more active fish".......

Water parameter: ph 6.8, kh 2-3, temp 28C

After reading some of your comments, I re-setup my L46 tank to this, however, I am still awaiting for the right L46 to move in...

P.S those 2 goldfish (Ranchu) are just temporary resident, as their tank are being expanded too.

that tank looks stunning, nice shelter for the caves, good breeding setup and very asthetically pleasing. looks to be well filtered too!

How many fish were you planning on going in there?
There may be a few too many caves for some peoples likings but it looks perfect to me

Thank you. I am planning to get 6-7pcs, ideally 3M + 4F, wild caught. However, there is not process in tracking them down. Sigh~~!

Damn! That is some nice CRS there. Too bad I don't live in HK. I would soooo trade you my baby zebras on a one for two swap for those Mosura. Did you get your CRS from ASSA?
