sex ratio...

We all know how difficult it is to identify the sex of these fish, so please post a picture in here and we'll try to help you (or at least give an educated guess!).

sex ratio...

Post by tirzo13 »

hey, does anyone know if Zebras have more males than females?
It seems that when ever someone submits pictures to ID, they are usually mostly if not all males.
so are more fry coming out male?
or perhaps sellers are selling only males.
just seems to me all the ID pix end up being male.

Most zebra fry that are being sold are way too young to sex. The older adults that are being sold around are more male heavy because breeders don't let females go if they can get their hands on them. That leaves extra males. As the market gets more F1 stock grown out, it should provide a more even balance of females. The males are supposed to be easier to catch in the river, as they won't leave their caves, so it just takes finding the right rocks to move to get to them.
