Rather than just making an assumption on the sexes which is quite possibly wrong anyway...why not ask who he got them from and see if they will vouch for them having been a breeding pair. If the seller is honest I'm sure he won't mind passing the previous owners info, or getting the previous owner to get in contact with you..

I would ask him if he can give you the details of the previous seller so you can check out whether his claim of breeding is true or not..
I've seen several people here including myself supply better pictures than those of their fish and be told they have all males...only to find a few months later that they have fry in the tank.

Hi
Well here goes, breaking the rules again, discussing things in Private Sales and wants.
They both look like males to me, but this is from somebody who is useless at identifying the sexes.
I have a female that I was convinced was a male.
From what I recall Plastic Mac was convinced he had all males until they bred. Also when I started out with this fish, as they wouldn't breed I was convinced I had all males.
Only recently Barbie posted a pic of a female, that most people would probably say was a male from the pic.
IMO, when people say definate m or f I always have my doubts.
As for breeding pair, again doubts, I would want to see some young that they have produced recently.
As for a pair that have bred, again I would like to see some young or here from somebody who has obtained some young from these parents.
As for purchasing a breeding pair, change of environment, different husbandry may prevent these fish ever breeding again. As can be seen with Discus, people buy proven pairs that never breed for them.

Agreed Dave on all points.
One slight correction though, I was under the impression I had all males not because I was convinced I had all males but because the people that gave their opinion on this site all agreed that I had males...
It just seems this seller may well be being honest and anyone willing to check a little further than just looking at some pics, which we all know aren't guaranteed, may well get themselves a potential pair.

No, females will spawn with other males, no problem. The correllation to discus was just an example, which seems to have just confused the issue farther, rather than clear anything up
. Males do definitely have their favorites, though, don't get me wrong!
