A strange observation...

Post by madmoroccan »

Hi all,

This evening just after I put some food in the tank for my new group of 5 juveniles (5 months old) I noticed (from my perch behind the sofa) that they were "scuffling"/fighting!*#&? :x

Is it possible that at such a young age they can show aggression? Is it even more likely that I witnessed some playful behaviour?

Very possible on both accounts. I'm sure they're experiencing their hormones just like how we get mood swings and will 'nip' at each other.

The real question is, did anyone get hurt?

Nah... Not a chance. The scuffle was over straight away! One of the two disappeared behind some slate, and reappeared about 1 minute later in a different spot to continue with the feast! Unscathed of course! 8)

Perfectly normal. I belive it's practicing for adulthood where they will get a rank in the group. I can't think of any animals living in a community that doesn't do the same. Mine do it all the time, especially at feeding time ;)

Good stuff... Seems like the smallest of my group is shaping up to be the alpha!

They aren't very shy either. I guess I was lucky. 8)
