Who cares if the gH also rises? Not the zebras! Tufa, ocean rock, shells, or coral will all increase the buffering capacity of your water. Coral works best though. You can buy large pieces of crushed coral and keep it in a filter sock in your filtration to keep it out of sight. It really won't raise your hardness that much and will definitely keep your fish safe. These fish are not breeding discus. They won't mind gradually increased hardness in the slightest. I promise!

Re: zebs like it soft?
This could have been my readings, from the tap. It's dangerous to say, but none the less true, that spring and autimn is the time when my fish spawn. Why? Because it rains a lot there then, which lower the PH in the tap...andrewcoxon wrote:i know zebras like the water soft and my test kit arrived today. the water in the tank has the following stats:
NO3: 10-25
NO2: 0
GH: 6
KH: 0 - 3
PH: 6.3 - 6.6
When that's said - - after I get babies I need to harden that water, or they blow up like balloons. See subject: "What's happening to my baby"
