how to lower ph?

If it's about fish in general, or it's a little bit random, then this is the place to post it.

The wood will almost never raise pH, infact it will lower it.

If the tank is still empty I would consider experimenting with Seachem Acid Buffer as it "eats away" at your kH to lower your pH (kH is related to pH) or you could use the more trusted method such as RO or DI water. I wouldn't trust any other buffers as most are phosphate based, while Seachem Acid Buffer isn't. Other meathods include adding sphagum peat, which will decrease both your pH and gH (hardness).
