I called my husband and made him come home for lunch. This was my first zebra spawn.I'm new to the hobby and have only kept fish for a few years. My husband has kept a community tank for 13 years at his office and nothing ever bred for him. We now have his and her tanks. I keep plecos, discus and angelfish while he keeps betta, guppies, killies, loaches and rainbowfish. Today we are 14 aquariums deep (six are 2.5 gal for bettas) here at the house. My husband has five at the office.
I'm glad the stork visited us but in the last 90 days we have had angelfish, discus, bn pleco, halfmoon bettas, four types of rainbowfish, killies, moscow guppies, and zebra plecos to have babies. OMG!!!! The angels are at it again. They are guarding a large wad of newly hatch fry now. They are good at parenting and will raise most of them. I’ve put all my discus pairs together to deter spawning for now. I will continue to leave my zebra pleco colony of six do their own thing in their 60 gal tank. They have plenty of room, cliffs and caves. I have no idea of what I am going to do when everything grows up. I do know the discus and plecos are keepers. At this point I can’t imagine ever giving them up.
Funny thing is; we don't consider ourselves breeders although we've had multiple successful spawns. We’re just hobbyists. I’ve had to disinfect my hospital/QT tank and recycle it just to raise fry. We have tanks with fry at different stages grouped by compatibility, size and diet. Thank goodness for the bn pleco babies. They are big enough to help keep the algae down in my other nursery tanks and with all these tanks every little bit of help is most welcome. I gave that stork a good talking to. He can bring all the zebra plecos he wants but the rest will have to be returned.
