L173

Post by fishboy »

My LFS has L173 on their list for $60. The guy is calling tomorrow to see if they are actual zebras, if they are then I am getting 10. But, I noticed that Barbie has L173. Barbie, does this mean that L173 is no longer Hypancistrus Zebra. I read about this somewhere, where L173 was no longer labeled as zebras. I know that L046 and L098 are considered zebras, but any input would be appreciated

L173 should be Hypancistrus zebra. The fish they are importing as L173 are actually not.

Thanks Barbie, the moment of truth will be today nafter school. I was tempted to have him order 15 at least, but decided not to. I figured 10 was enough for a 20 long

Fishboy, Barbie is right. It's very unlikely that the L173 will be H. Zebra. Here's a link to some plecs I bought as L173 recently, this is what you are likely to get. Apparently the Belo Monte plec which is what these are likely to be have been given their own L# now(L399/L400).

I too have read somewhere that Datz will no longer be using L173 for H.Zebra.

I know the fish they are importing are known as L173. But these are tank bred fish, only 1.5-2 inch fish. Anyways, like I said I will find out after school if they are real zebras. If I am reading Barbies post, the L173 I am getting should be zebras, right. Babrie, could you get more detailed with these fish.

Get more detailed how? They won't be H. zebra. The picture of the fish in the aqualog that was later "described" as H. zebra is not the fish that is being imported as L173.

I would SERIOUSLY doubt that the fish you're getting are tank raised, also. 10 is going to be about twice as many as you should keep in a 20 gallon long, IMO. Then again, 10 is too many H. zebra for a 20 long, also. These fish have territorial needs, not to mention water quality issues that can not be provided for in that much space.

Ok, well, I will see. But if they are zebras, which you doubt, and so do I, then I won't be getting them. And, as for tank bred, I have no idea what they are. And, I am going to buy me an aqualog book. Do they have all l numbers in them, including all hypancistrus

They were what barbie has mentioned. My LFS ordered 2 of them in, and they look like barbies. I think i am going to purchase an aqualog, very handy isn't it. Anyways, i am plannong on adding 2 QAs to my colony of 4 in my 20long, but will have no idea of species. I plan on getting an R/O unit soon so i can do a continuos rainy season which should start spawning them.
