first ever uk discus show

If it's about fish in general, or it's a little bit random, then this is the place to post it.

first ever uk discus show

Post by sid »

Welcome to the October 2005 press release 1, for the Tetra Sponsored UK Discus Association Championship Open Show and Supreme Championship.

The UKDA Open and Supreme Championship will take place on Saturday, 15th October 2005 & Sunday, 16th October 2005 at Mill Rythe Holiday Village, 16 Havant Road, Hayling Island, Hampshire, PO11 0PB United Kingdom. It will form part of the Federation of British aquatic Societies ‘Festival of fishkeeping’ weekend. Hayling Island is on the south coast f the UK and the closest airport is Southampton, followed by either Heathrow or Gatwick.

The aim of the show is to foster the true spirit of the discus keeping community; this means that:
Entry to the Marquee will be completely free, thanks to FBAS and Aquarian.

There will be no monetary prizes for winners of any class – remember this is about bringing people together, sharing experiences and most of all FUN!!!

To increase the overall number of people keeping discus by demonstrating to non-discus keepers that with a little respect and understanding discus CAN BE EASY!

To build ties with the International Discus Community and to ensure the perpetuity and growth of a UK Show

To encourage amateur entries, and to foster professional entrants for future shows.
There will be a minimum of 40 tanks of discus (excluding trade stands of discus) entered into the following 6 categories:
1. Solid Red
2. Solid Blue
3. Spotted
4. Striped or Striated
5. Wild
6. Open Class* / Other – *those that do not fit into categories 1-5
The open show will be judged on the Saturday and class winners along with fish selected by the Judging Panel will be entered into the Supreme Championship. It is envisioned that the Supreme Championship in subsequent years will be open to past and present winners.

The judging panel will consist of:
Dougall Stewart – Senior Judge

Sid Adam – Judge representing Scotland

Tony Vaughan – Judge representing Ireland

Jeffery Tan – International Judge, President of The Discus Society of Malaysia and UKDA supporter.

And a FBAS ‘A Category Judge’ (name to be announced)
The trophy for the show has be sponsored by Simon Wolstencroft and Tropicalworld Magazine

In addition to the show their will be talks from Heiko Bleher, David Lim of Fishio tribe and Jeffery Tan of the discus Society of Malaysia.

The UKDA welcomes ALL visitors to the show and also welcomes International enquiries for showing discus at next year’s show. It is our hope that tanks space will be increased substantially but you will need to book early to be guaranteed a tank.

If you would like to visit the show you can just turn up on the day, but please make sure you come and say hello to us and SIGN OUR SHOW GUESTBOOK, or if you would like to see if there is accommodation on site – telephone Grace Nethersall on Telephone: 0208 847 3586 or International Telephone No. +44 208 847 3586. How on earth did I miss this One!!!

Sounds good Sid. Won't be able to make it myself, but is there a website that gives some more info, the UKDA website for example.

  Ohh... and don't let him fool anyone, he looks nothing like George Clooney......more a of a Brad Pitt sort of look!

The perfect white lie..."Of course I didn't pay that much for the fish honey"
