Re: Repashy Meat Pie
Yes, there is a reason. It has been replaced but Bottom Scratcher. I liked the Meat Pie and I like the Scratcher even more. The ingredients are similar but the Scratcher is the better mix of the two.

Re: Any ideas how I can collect Harlequin Rasbora eggs in my Zebra tank?
I do not know if this will work, but you could try adding a spawning mop to the tank. Maybe they will place some eggs there. Then you can pull the mop and hatch them in their own space. They are very tiny fry and will need infusoria to eat at first. If you are serious about wanting to get fry that s...

Re: New to board from Toronto
Welcome to the site and to the wonderful world of zebras. I am surprised to hear about the dithers since in the wild there are none where the zebras live. The ecosystem does not support small top swimmers. The zebras will either be too deep or else when shallower they tend to be in water too fast fo...

Sorry for a slow response.
All zebras choose tight spaces in which to hide. For small zebra this is cracks and cervices, i.e. places bigger things cannot fit. As they grow they move to bigger places.

Re: Should I combine tanks?
If you do this, you can kiss any potential zebra fry goodbye, they will be on the menu for the discus. Adult zebras are fine in with discus. I parked a pair of males with a pair of discus for many years. I no longer have discus, but i still have those males in another zebra tank. When we consider wh...

Re: Zebra wigglers problem
Sorry for a slow reply. Since the problem seems to be intermitten,t my first thought is you may have either a male or female with a genetic defect. Within a group there will be a limited number of fish actually involved with spawning. Since plecos do not pair, spawning is within a given sub-group of...

Re: Grow Out Tank
The bare bottom v.s. substrate is a separate issue from the rest of your questions. All plecos need cover in which to hide. Forcing them to live in the open will stress them which in turn will leadt o illness and deaths. When possible, I have kept babies with the breeders. Many folks believe they ne...

Re: Hello From Sweden
Welcome to the world of zebras. They are a really neat fish and pricey as you know, But if you can assemble a small group with both sexes and get them to spawn, you will get your investment back and also be helping to insure this species survives in tanks around the world as it is likely not to do so...

Re: Hello from Australia
Welcome to the site and the wonderful world of zebras. i know what fish cost down under, you must have won the lottery. In terms of other fish with the zebras, it is not uncommon when having to simulate a dry season that it ends with the water temps over 90F (32.22C). I doubt the shrimp or whiptails...

Re: l46 How many pair can you have in the same akvarium?
I do not work with pairs, only with groups. With 12-13 adult breeders I had two males going at about 30 day intervals but with new eggs every 15 days from one or the other. On one occasion a third male in the group spawned. I had egg\s, new wigglers and almost free swimmers. This was never repeated....

Re: Keeping Fry alive
If you are feeding food the fry are able to eat, they should be eating it. I feed frozen BBS or Cyclops and my fry find this and do fine. Fry will also eat "big" food as long as it gets soft so they can take tiny bites. https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-nNtfJX9/0/f355fd38/M/i-nNtfJX9-M.j...

Re: Keeping Fry alive
Did you see an sort of symptoms? I am aware of this sort of thing happening to a few folks over the years. Basically, it was due to the presence of something the adults are more able to fight off vs the fry. I am not 100% certain but I believe the disease but was oodinium aka velvet. I do remember t...

Re: Hi All
Welcome to the wonderful world of zebras and to the site. Zebras can work in some community type tanks, but not many. And for breeding anything a species tank is almost always the most effective way. But I did house a couple of wild caught adult males zebras years ago in a tank with a pair of discus...

Re: Panta Nouri Carnivore
As for fish not eating food from the land, there are fish that eat fruits and nuts that fall into the water, they do so regularly. What about piranah, don't they eat land animals that end up in the water? Or how about those catfish in France that take pigeons from the shore when they go to drink? ht...
