Jerms,

IMO, you should leave the male with the eggs until the fry has absorbed the yolk sac, unless he has a history of eating the eggs/fry then I would remove them as soon as they hatch.

Hi smithrc, I think yours may also be sp. "Belo Monte" like mine, just a guess. Don't you just hate it, there is no certainty. This makes it very difficult to breed them. How big are your L173s? Jerms, I will also try to take some new pics of the second batch of L236 in the tank. They do l...

Thanks Sven and everyone. Jerms, I tried to find out where the L173 was from but was unable to get that info from the importer. I will try it again next week. He is currently on vacation so I'll have to wait. If that one L173 is truly a L236 that would be nice but then all the other L236 that I purc...

Me too. I am so totally confused. In the past year I have collected what dealers and importers have told me tobe L340s, L236s, L333s, L287s, L173s, L98s, and they all have variations with each group buys that look similar to the others.

I think your theory may hold water.

Hi Adam, sorry to hear of the low numbers. I had a male do the same thing. He had around 12 spawns but to date only maybe ten surviving young. He currenly is not breeding for me and he stopped about 6 months. Luckily I have another group that starting breeding since then. Have you thought of finding...

Sounds like a good plan. If you can find a fish friend who has seen you do tank maintenance and know what they are doing that would be ideal, but that's probably rare.

Like you I don't know if I can trust anyone either to do that.

Hi McEve, If your adults and babies are eating pellet food you can try using an auto feeder ( the one made by eheim is pretty good and I've used mine on several occasion when I have been gone for 4 to 5 days). In your case all you would do is ask your friend to go by every few days and check that th...

Hi Jerms,

The way I usually can tell if the male has eggs is when he is deep in his cave. My males normally hang half its body or its tail outside of the caves attracting females and when he has eggs he is all the way at the front of the cave with the eggs at his mouth fanning and tumbing them.

Hi glockfu, as suggest a varied diet is important. For the babies you can try feeding them frozen cyclop-eeze (as suggested by adam both adults and babies will eat them), Frozen baby brine shrimp, and some veggies ( I usually use frozen spinach from the supermarket). They usually start nibbling at t...

Hi Barbie,

I'm so sorry to hear about your lost. Hope all is well now. Do you have any idea how ich could have appeared in your tanks seeing that you have not added anything? Any insight would be great so others can learn. Thanks

Hi Jerms,

Are the white bands truly that white. I find that some times the bands are whiter than they are because the way the picture was taken, ie. with flash without flash, with sun light entering the room. Are they more creamy to yellow/brown color when not stressed.
