your tank size of roughly 35 gallons should be good enough to breed the fish and if they have lived there for a year already all you have to do is give him the proper cave the right temperature and good diet also flow rate you can find all this here:

unless you have a 20 gallon long I would stick to the 46 gal. tank a regular 20 gal. tank has far too little floor space for two adult breeding males you might end up with just one male or two very beat up fish but this really depends on the fish if they grew up together in the 20 it should be fine ...
