L046 plecs dying

You don't mention oxygen levels but my guess is this is the problem, especially if you don't have much surface agitation or air pumped in. I have lost these fish before in these conditions. I would also take the big fish out and get more air in the water.

Easy Balance

Hi Jamie,
You'll have no problems with Easy Balance since your water is so well oxygenated but anyone using it has to be careful to ensure there is plenty of oxygen getting into the water. I once lost fish using Easy Balance when the aeration stopped overnight.

I have had only one successful spawning thus far and the female died a few days after the babies were out of the cave. She looked fine (no signs of fighting) so I have no idea what happened. There were no changes in water conditions to explain this and the babies and surviving male continued to ...

feeding the young

is it safe to feed 2-3 month old fry on frozen discus food or frozen beefheart cubes in view of the reported dangers of young zebras choking on frozen (adult) brine shrimp? aslo, what about frozen fish eggs for the young zebras?

my baby zebras are now 2 months old and doing well. thanks to everyone who advised on food etc - i have been using cyclops, tetra prima mini granules, frozen daphnia and tetra min tabs. As a proud foster dad it is hard to resist over-feeding but i 'hoover' every morning and use nitrazorb, clear ...

feeding the young

Hi Rob,
I have some Waterlife Shelless Brine Shrimp Eggs. it says on the packet you can feed them to juvenile fish unhatched. Maybe?
my fry (5 of them) are maybe 3 weeks old, very shy and i suppose because they are so small it is hard to see if they are feeding okay. As a worried foster dad i am ...

has anyone tried feeding unhatched shelless brine shrimp eggs to young zebras (3 weeks old)?
i am not sure my young are feeding - it's hard to tell. tried baby brine shrimp, tetramin tabs, finely ground prima.

unexpected arrivals

thanks for your reply. no, the water conditions are perfect, no new tank mates, plenty of hiding places.
there are in fact five perfect babies. i wondered if the young adult fish was killed by the new father?
however, there were no marks on the deceased - he/she looked fine, but maybe it was ...

i've got three tanks of zebras - the main one with six zebras has been the focus of my attention as it has some cave sharing of healthy and plump looking beauties.
in another tank of three much younger zebras, i was upset 10 days ago to find that one of them had died. two days later, i discovered ...
