Try and find the age of the fish, avoid any that are less than 6 months old. Look for a nice full body and well shaped fins. Check that the fish have a good long snout, not short and stubby (bull or stubnose). Most of all avoid any fish with red patches on the fins (poor water quality) and sunken ...

from the views in the bottom photo, I would say that the fish on the left and the one in the middle at the top are females.

As the pH scale is logarithmic one, a pH of 7.8 is a lot less basic than one of pH8.2! Infact it is about five times less basic!

I have a male that I got as a mature fish in December 1995. He is still going strong now. He must be at least 15 years old!

For those aquarist in the North East of England, I have heard that there is a new aquarium shop in Redcar that has zebras for sale.

I would go for a nice ripe female.

Nice round belly, opercular spines are reduced, thin first ray on pectoral fins the does look broad but is quite rounded off.
