It's controversial on what it means by real L173...
the classic view is it is just a wave-line zebra but some
germans put any species as L173... anyhow,
these tank-bred "L173" are rather similar to L400 but they
look more "white" and sharp than the usual L400...

they should be of sex-able size ...

the 2nd pic is a male, the 3rd pic is a female.
the first one cannot be sexed from this lateral view...
and the last one looks like a male even though i did
get a hairy female which is 90% similar to this fish.

2 and 5 are male,
1, 3, 4, 6, 7 are female

3 male (2 very big and 1 smaller), and 1 female.
There is one which is in between of a male and a female...

i believe that choking is the real reason as the food for discus could easily choke the zebra which, in my opinion, does not eat as much meat as many people proposed... if you look at the teeth of the zebra you know what i mean...

how is he, did he respond to treatment?

Basically, the treatment is to reduce the chance of death or secondary infection... my searching and checking on fish medicine books all tell me that there is no effective medicine to cure this virus infection problem...
