Hi eklikewhoa, unfortunately, the algae is growing on plants (as well as wires and the heater). So a blackout isn't really a viable option, nor is removing the plants. I was thinking more along the lines of some sort of chemical remedy that someone has used. Thanks.

Hi, has anyone used any treatments for beard algae in a zebra tank. We're not 100% sure it is beard algae but I have seen photos of hair algae and it doesn't look quite the same.

I wouldn't worry. I have owned zebras since November last year and only saw mine feed for the first time two days ago. I just put the food in the tank before I go to bed, and its gone the next day.
