At the moment i cant afford the amount needed to setup a Zebra tank, so i was wondering what other type of pleco i could use to 'practice' with before moving over to Zebs.

Something with similar needs and breeding habbits?

Any ideas?

Cool, so a fairly 'normal' shrimp will do ok?

No way would i get a crab, used to have 1 until he crawled out the tank, out of the room and ended up downstairs....which was bizarre.

I've read that shrimp make pretty good partners for zebras..... sounds pretty intresting....what would i need to feed them? Can they escape as good as the little crabs you can buy etc???

My tank is all setup, just waiting for my caves (should arrive today/next monday) and my zebs (just arranging ...

I got sent a thermo instead of the normal one without a heater....

Im just going to turn the heater off and go with a normal heater that i've got after ...

I like the sound of a couple of those ideas....

This tank will have to be my 1 and only zebra tank (well for the time being) so i need to make sure it's good enough for when i get the small ones in and when they are grownup.

I think il scrap the powerhead idea for now and go with your suggestion ...

My aim is to have the tank setup before i go away for 3 weeks at the end of august which will give it time to sit and what not, and then to try and have some zebs before xmas time....

I have some small 2-3mm black gravel in the tank at the moment, but im open for suggestions on whats best to keep ...
