Hello smithrc
Thank you but if you could just tell that to my Zebra's it might help
I have to use these filters on my shrimp system because of the volume of water and the fact that to raise significant quantities of ornamental marine shrimps you need to massively over feed the larvae. I am ...

Yes John
In my opinion de-nitrification is very straightforward if you go about it the right way. You need a container that has an inlet and an outlet for tank water. It must be air tight and be filled with a large surface area filter media. A pump to circulate water within the container is ...

I appreciate your concerns eklikewhoa but I have run the same system on a marine calcium reactor for a very long time with no problems. If you buy good quality equipment it is very reliable. Many years ago I bred many thousands of Discus. I had a very large "pond" which I used to condition water ...

Yes, The fresh water system has sponge filters to do the first part of the nitrogen cycle. I then need a de-nitrification filter to complete the cycle and have fresh water with no nitrate. Once I have set up this filter I can reduce the water changes but I still want to control the pH. That does not ...

"All you'll do in a situation like that is cause a major PH swing from the tap PH to the desired PH every 12 hours - now that sort of instability will cause a lot of stress... "
That's why I want to control the pH. I want to keep the tank water as clean as possible.
I am not in a position to set up ...

Hello smithrc
Thanks for your response. I'm am looking to reduce the impact of increased ph during water changes. My system automatically changes 75% of the tanks water every 12 hours. I live in a very soft water area and the mains pH, if not controlled by South West Water would be low so they add ...

pH control using CO2

Does anyone use CO2 as a means of controlling the pH in a fish only tank (no plants or substrate) i.e Using a pH controller / CO2 cylinder set to a specific pH?

Hi grettonman
I have run a NR 5000 Nitratereductor for 7 years now. It is used to maintain a low nitrate level in my shrimp culture system (Marine) It is controlled using an Aqua medic ORP meter and a solenoid valve. The ORP meter controls a solonoid valve and has its set point at -200 mv. When the ...

I hope so Mindy. The caves and shelters are spread out over the entire length of the tank now. I have put the original caves in the same positions they were in when the tank was two halves. This morning one male from the old 'two male half' has moved to a cave once owned by a female in the old 'two ...

Greeting all
After sifting through all your advice re. should / should not remove the divider from an 8 foot tank and allow 2 females + one male in one half of the tank form a colony with 2 males + one female in the other half of the tank. This morning they are now all in one tank but still, as I ...

Thank you all for your responses. As will a lot of questions asked on forums the person asking the question sometimes does not give sufficient facts for the forum to come up with the best advice.
I will try and elaborate. I am semi-retired and for the last 6 years have been self employed breeding a ...

Some Advice Please

I have six Zebras. There are three males and three females. They vary in length from 60 mm to 80 mm. They are kept in an 8 foot x 18" x18" tank divided in half. Water flows between the two halves but the fish cannot. In one half I have one male and two females. In the other half I have two males and ...

For me it's just the forum. It is slightly quicker as we speak. Been on a number of web sites tonight and they load almost instantly so I feel my system is OK. Its not a pain though as this place is worth waiting for :D
