Unfortunately the time has come for me to part with my beloved zebras. :( My group was bought and imported from Germany 2 years ago and they were from 3 seperate breeders.

There are 15 adults and a few fry. I will not split the group as they are established and I'd like them to go as a job lot ...

If you have a digital camera try and get a pic of him. If he's at the bottom of the cave with his head angled up and resting on his pectoral fins then he certainly is guarding. He'll also be fanning the eggs with his anal fins.

If not then you're probably just p*ssing him off!!!!

Getting pics of them in the tank is very tricky but if you're prepared to wait a little you can catch them eating in the open, once they're that adventurous!!

That's a good point actually. When I first got my zebs and gave them lots of hiding places I never saw them, obviously this was largly due to them settling in; but once they were they became a lot more lively.

I would keep an eye on the alpha male to see how he behaves when the other male zebs take up caves. I'm sure I read another thread somewhere on here that mentioned some alphas not liking occupied caves either side of their own.

The new set-up is certainly much better for breeding, my only observation though is the distance between the caves; Are they too close together?!

You're best to just leave the little fella alone. Since the zebra is naturally a shy fish they do tend to hide away very well, it's completely normal!!!

Like the others have suggested I would provide a few more hiding places for it, you may find it will find a suitable spot and keep going back to ...
