Tropheus - Anyone know any good uk dealers / suppliers?

If it's about fish in general, or it's a little bit random, then this is the place to post it.

Ilangi are actually extinct in the lake now, so you'll want to make sure you get a good source for them, if you find them. Sorry I can't be of more help. I keep and really enjoy tropheus, but I don't think I could get the fry overseas very easily ;).

According to Ad Konings, they no longer exist in the wild. The fish that are being collected in their collection area are another variant, not Ilangi. I do definitely trust him as the ultimate source of this type of information, since he spends so much time in the lake itself.

there was a guy over on c-f that lives on the lake and i remember him stating that its just harder to collect them now due to hippo/croc infestation along with them being protected or something.

most of it all was just rumors and there was never anything backing the fact they they are extinct.

im not questioning you barbie but i have yet to see any proof of them being wiped off the face of the earth but i do see wc ilangi's being offered and i do have a good size colony in my tank. over at tropheusfanatics pam chin is a member and she has dived with ad konigs on occasions and i think they are friends. i will ask her about it and what her and ad thinks about it.

Pam is definitely a friend of Ad's and has dived with him, as has Tim Nurse, my partner on my site Fishaholics ;). Tim stays in touch with him and the entire discussion started when I decided to send my colony of ilangi to him a few years ago. Ad was adamant that he should take good care of them because they no longer exist in the lake, hence, where my recommendation came from ;). The fish that moved into their "territory" are another closely colored variant, but not the same fish. I guess I'll have to bug Tim to bug Ad about it again ;).

I regularly talk to Pam, in fact I gave her very first suckie fish and she's got a big mean red devil named after me, hehe. I know we've discussed the ilangi a time or two but I can't remember exactly what her take on them was.

The consensus on the "new" ilangi wilds being exported seemed to have been that they were no longer "truly" ilangi and were another fish, but hopefully I'm wrong, since I'm sure you paid a pretty penny for your wild colony ;).

hahaha, im not sure if i should ask why a Red Devil is named after you barbie.

well hopefully for my sake that the ilangi's are still something of the same. i have seen other variants that closely resemble ilangi's but they have their differences. i have posted to ask pam so maybe we can get her to bother Ad.

from what i am hearing is that instead of being actually "wild caught" they are being pond raised off the banks over there. if i remember right it was Ad or one of the other well respected fellows that gave the statement about the hippo/crocodile population making it harder to collect the ilangi's.
