@zebra_man:

The decision is simple... Buy them or somebody else will. I would also go so far as to say; the only advice that will count is your own mind...
As I see it NZ isn't likely to get a shipment of L046 anytime in the next decade, so my advice is sometimes you have to look at which of the two is the greater evil? Buying wild caught and introducing them into the hobby. Or not having any at all? After all do you really think they won't sell?

I would like to say also that just because somebody can get 20-40 L046 every few months that doesn't mean that they were smuggled. I have seen with my own eyes a breeding setup capable of doing that here in the UK (my group of 5 can testify to that)... Granted that setup is about two years behind regularly producing groups of 20-40 2.5" fish.
All that means is that this guy can get good stocks of F1>F2...

Who are we to call somebody else a liar without knowing how they go about their business?

This is a case of the egg before the chicken. Let's get facts before we decide that Blue is LEGALLY selling "wild caught". The last time I checked you couldn't get arrested for trying to sell wild caught fish OUTSIDE Brazil anyway.

I know because the last shipment of adults, before anyone knew they were illegal and being smuggled - he told me they were WC from the Rio Xingu and he told Kathy that they were from around Peru. What is that supposed to tell you - that he's honest? And I know of another importer who can still get them WC. Why wouldn't Blue do that - surely it's much cheaper than running after some breeders in the US.

And no not yet, unless they are on the CITES list - only then can everyone being linked to them can be charged, fined or arrested. But they are not on that list yet.

If that is the case then this guy is a scumbag!

Though I will stick with my advice to buy them... Export licence US>NZ will make any potential private seller think twice.

I am not an owner of "wild caught" L046, but I do see the bigger picture, and in this case purchasing some L046 from ExoticFinds would serve as a start of the hobby over there too (NZ)...

@zebra_man;

Wait till you see the price in your own currency! :lol:

I would assume so, the risk is smaller than buying privately simply because you are dealing with a business. :wink:

And if you pay by credit card you are even more secure should a business try to rip you off. Here in the uk most credit cards protect you from fraudulent transactions... Might be worth while finding out if that is the case in NZ.

With regards to the first spawn recouping all the investment...
I wouldn't count on it. These fish are very hard to successfully spawn in the first place. No amout of info on the net can guarantee a spawn. And sometimes that may take years as some people here can testify. Not to mention the sale age! The young don't travel very well before 6 months old. These are all things you should consider. So if you're still keen after all these things then you have no problems. And even then there are no guarantees that all the fish if any arrive alive.

Good luck

The Rio Xingu and it's tributaries are more than 1,000 miles ( 1600 KM) from Peru border. I have not heard of any of these fish being any where near Peru in the wild

Just to mention...

Blue has zebras AGAIN, but they are NOT listed here. His ad in PC contains the zebras at $400.00, BTW. :evil: :evil: :evil:

Best regards.

Daniel.
