My home designed caves (patent stolen from Lyretail)

Pretty much explains itself really. If you have questions about tank set-ups, tank furniture, (caves etc) chuck them in here!

My home designed caves (patent stolen from Lyretail)

Post by gianniz »

Hello everyone,

for the last 2months I wanted to make a nice cave for these little critters.

I was tossing between slatecaves or caves made from clays kilned.

I couldn't find a decent kilner in sydney so i opted for the slate design.

BUT i couldn't find any decent slates,

so i bought a bunch of tiles with clay kilned bottom and made a cave using Lyretails design :) (i'd buy your cave but i am in oz)

As from the picture my zebs like it so hopefully i get a positive result very soon.

Not too bad. :D

No need to worry about "my design" I only copied the dimensions from this site.
My improvements have been the distressed edges, front porch and a removable top.
I am actually puzzled why other people have not copy my design.

The main problem I had with ceramic tile is that the ones that I found that I liked,
had cross pattern on the bottom which made them impossible to seal together.
They were also too hard to distress the edges

I have been working on Molded clay stoneware caves of various shapes.
I made some pretty nice molds, however what I thought would save me
some hours seems to be more labor intensive and a lot of waiting time for air drying
