Silicone advice?

Hi

I recently made my first five caves for my L134s.

I used the typical dark grey DIY slate like tiles from B&Q and aquairum (clear) silicone. When pressing the pieces of slate together excess was squeezed out of the sides. I used a tissue to wipe away the excess. This left a very thin layer of silicone.

I then left the caves outside to dry for 36 hours. However, this very thin layer of silicone felt slightly sticky so I left it to dry for longer. However, its been 4 days now and it is still tacky to the touch. I doesn't smell of silicone so should I put it in the tank? I've used this silicone many times before without any problems or concerns.

Cheers

Tom

I had that happen once with old silicone that had already been open for awhile. I'm not sure if it separated, or what happened, but it never did "set" and I ended up throwing those caves away and starting over. Not sure that's the news you'll want to hear though!

Thanks for your reply Barbie.

Your spot on, I didn't want to hear that but guessed as much! They are five cracking caves even if I do say so myself but its not worth risking any of my fish! Oh well, I've got plenty of tiles left so I'll just get some new silicone and make some more. :D
