Water Quality Warning

I have just read the info on the link belowwhich highlights the dangers of chloramine in the water supply. It stated that even though the dechlorinators that we use get rid of the chlorine, the by product of chloramine being treated this way is ammonia
So we are taking out chloramine and adding ammonia in our water changes, Gooooooood

Two products, Kent Ammonia Detox and API Ammo-Lock2 are capable of removing chloramine and the resulting ammonia. The vast majority of other dechlorinators do not do this.
I know what I will be buyin when the time comes.

It's something American fishkeepers (and Brit fishkeepers like me who are in America) have had to contend with for a while.
The better dechlorinators both break the bond between the ammonia and chlorine while at the same time locking up the ammonia so it won't harm the fish. The filter then simply deals with the ammonia you've introduced during the water change.
So, when your water company makes the switch, make sure your dechlorinator also locks up the ammonia.
The product I use is Seachem Prime. Dunno if it's available in the UK or not but..

Yes it is and that's the one I use too. Stinks to high heaven in the bottle though but thgankfully you only need a very small ammount.

can you buy a chloramine cartridge and just add another pod to your ro unit?

Your carbon prefilter should deal with any chloramine.
