Males

Will 2 males fight for dominance anyway or will they only fight if they are ready to spawn?
I ask this because i have 1 cave in my tank a few pieces of rock and a large piece of mopani wood, and the 1st male i had never ever ever! came out of his cave if he did it would only be a flick in and out!
Now i have another male in there ( and it is def a male ) they sit together under the Wood? strange or normal behavior?
