I was able to take a photo today of my two zebras although only from above.
The one in front is, IMO a male but I don't know about the second one.
Can you help, please

After looking at the photos again, I noticed the broken line on the head - is this normal?

Hi Seahorse,
Sorry, a little difficult to tell from the photos.
In focus, Close ups of the front of the fish would have helped to sex them.
The broken line is just a slight variation on the patterning.
Regards,
Des.

Hi Seahorse
As Des says, it's a little difficult with the photo's but I'll give it a shot.
The amount that the gill plates protrude on the first would make me think it is a young male. Have a close look for some odontodes, although these will be light at that age.
The second could well be a female, although this is based purely on the shape of the pectorial fins.
If you can, try and get a close-up of the gill plates, and pectorial fins. It may help us be a little mmore confident.
Cheers
Rob

Thanks, Rob,
I am hoping and praying they are male and female, they certainly don't like each other, the first one which has longer odontodes is IMO male, the one at the back currently has very short odontodes so I can only hope.
