after treating my tank for white spot i replaced some filter media and have done daily water changes using just ro water. all test look ok the tds is 210 but my ph is rising constantly. im recalibrating my ph meter as it now read 8.1. should i remove the media or is something else causing the ph to rise?

Hi Sparkee,
Have you got anything in your tank that contains shell or limestone. This will raise the ph.You can test for it , by taking some samples of sand , rock etc and away from the tank, add some acid ( a few drops). If it fizzes ,it contains lime and shouldnt be used.

Des.

ive checked to sand and the clay pots i have, but no reaction. with the aid to 2 x 20% water changes the ph is 7.7 now. they all seem ok, apart from one who is stuck to the front of the tank even after the lights came on. which im sure i read is a bad sign.

I keep my zebras at 7.8, no problem. You should check to see the pH of your RO. It can potentially still be very high, it just won't be stable there. If it is, and you add it to the tank, it will be allowing any buffering capacity left from your tap water to hold it there.

It's really not important with zebras, IMO. They will thrive and spawn anyway, or at least mine have.
