Zebs at it again.

Post by TwoTankAmin »

Well I just found a dad on eggs in a cave never used before for spawning, it is one of the clamshell style homemade ones. I am not certain the eggs are viable based on their color, but dad is doing his job so we will have to see how it turns out. There is another male in a small cave used for several spawns and he is behaving as if he was protecting eggs, but I can't see anything so I am hesitant to say yea or nay quite yet.

Very interesting, hope they are viable :)

Do you find that males will always stick with a particular cave normally? or do they swap it around?

Number two was a false alarm- the after lights out cave check revealed the cave to be empty. Dad is back in it today advertising though.

The clamshell cave dad is still plastered to the back and is making sure I can't see the eggs. So I assume everything there is progressing well.

Well the bad news is that when I returned from a long weekend away the eggs were no longer in the cave. It could be they were never viable or that they rolled out since the cave is an upper story one that tilts down a bit. The male is still in it.

The nice news is I came home with some small altums and a proven pair of wild discus. I have lost about half the altums but the discus are doing great.
