Dear All,
My male zebra is sick. May you please advise how this
disease can be treated? I am using Nifurpirinol...
Thanks a lot in advance - Oliver

That actually looks like lymphocystis, and if it is, it's strictly a virus and will burn out and go away once it's run it's course. I've never known plecos to get it, so it could also be some sort of a tumor that started after fin damage or something. Either way, treating it with medication is probably going to be ineffective and stress the fish. Are they actively growing? I had a tumor on the fin of an L401 that I had to excise to stop the growth. It was not what I'd call a fun process!

Dear Barbie and I_Need_Zebras:
Thank you very much for your advice.
Do you have any advice on the appropriate medicine(s) which can prevent the fish secondary infection from bacteria or fungi? (the branded
medicines (such as Sera, JBL, Waterlife, etc) will be especially helpful as it is easier to find them in the market).
I am using Nifurpirinol which is rather effective for controling bacteria even though it aso kills the nitrifying bacteria in the filtration system...
Thanks again for your help - OK

There doesn't tend to be secondary infections for types of tumors, IME.... The most important thing will be to keep his water quality optimal and be patient and see how it progresses in the coming weeks.

There is a thread somewhere on here posted by Channett, fish had the same symptoms, it was treated and got better.
Perhaps somebody who is more computer literate can track this thread down.
I have also seen these symptoms on Royals and Gold Nuggets, as Barbie says the tumours disappeared without any treatment.
I had one Ancistrus Claro with these symptoms, the tumours got amongst the bristles, so it can spread. All the other claros are just fine.
If the thread can be found I would advise treatment just to be on the safe side.
Take care
Dave

Thanks all for the tips again. I have a good idea about how to set the treatment plan now.

Basically, the treatment is to reduce the chance of death or secondary infection... my searching and checking on fish medicine books all tell me that there is no effective medicine to cure this virus infection problem...
He is still alive...
I just conducted a mini surgery for him this morning to remove the "white cloud" and he lost a hard bone of his pectoral fin...
