Thanks Adam and Shell,
And to think that when they were about £30 to £40 a few years ago, I didnt know enough to keep them alive for very long as they went into my community at 75 degrees F and not enough food as they were so timid, that all the others got to the food before they did.
Now however ,being in a warmer species tank @ 84 F, with some corys and rams, they try to get at the food even before it reaches the bottom. Yes Adam , that includes Flake food, various granular foods and of course the home made mix. I tend to feed them when I get home from work so they get used to being fed "early", and then maybe a midnight snack before I get to bed.

I'm afraid that I made the very same mistake with my first zebra. He didn't last that long in the community tank neither, maybe about 8 months. I found his rotting body under a piece of bog wood one day, no idea how long he had been there.

I'm trying to vary their diet Des, honest. I starve them out for a day or two and they still refuse to eat it. Should I starve them out for longer? It once took me well over a week to crack a couple of stubborn oscars, they then got hooked on pellets and wouldn't eat anything else  .

Not at all Ev, the guys were just shocked at the prices in Australia. Personally I think you got a good deal as you got them for quite a bit under $10000  .

Hi Ev

I am not shocked!!!

I actually paid $1200 each about 2 years ago and more recently paid $700 each. So I am in the same boat (or is it aquarium) as you :(

Obviously I would much rather have paid less but that is the going price (or was).

At $630 each in Australia you have done well.

You mention you scored some other caty's, which ones?

Cheers

Hi Ev, I hope I didnt offend you. I certainly do not think you are mad. I was a little surprised at the price, but coming from a typical tight fisted Scotsman....that aint surprising

I appologies fer any mis-understanding

Abouth the F..... discussion, The F... do not indicate anything regarding to vildcaught, the F0 also often refered to af P, parental generation, do not have to be wildcaught, if I bought a female from Adam and a male from another breeder, that would be my F0, offspring from those F1, F1 offspring F2 and so on.
Also offspring from a pair, lets say F1 x F3 in the same breeding group, would be regarded as a F1
When ever brought in a new male or female, thats a new F0

So be carefull, not to pay to much attention to the F... you realy cant use the information, when its abouth zebras or catfish in general, wheras its wery usefull, when it comes to fish keeping, where line and inbreeding is used.
