Does anyone know at what size/age the Zebs are likely to start breeding? I have a batch of 5 that are all around 5cm in length. Is it going to be a while before I can start getting my hopes up?

Is this total legnth from tip to tip or without the tail?

I just got some in that are right at 2.25 inches total legnth tip to tip but they look really small to me. Is it that Im just used to looking at my full grown adults or can they breed at this size?

females can begin breeding as early as at 2.5 inches. Males on the other hand need to be at least 3.25 inches to be able to breed.

So for the females, is that 2.5 inches from the tip of her nose to the tip of the bottom tail fin (the longest part) or is it from nose to begining of the tail fin?

yep was a suprise to me and everyone else as well, both the male and female were only 2.5" total length, he trapped her in the cave for 2 days and a clutch of about 10 eggs was laid, unfortinately she was determined to get back in the cave with him after spawning so he kicked the eggs and they fungused. finders crossed i should see another spawn from them soon

I believe captive bred fish grow relatively smaller. I also think it may take about the same time for them to be mature. It may take 4 years for a captive bred fish to become 2.5 inch, but only take 2 years for a wildcaught fish to become the same size. :)

Why do you think this? It took about two and a half years for my fry to grow to 2.5-3 years
