Just thought I'd say "hi" and glad to be aboard.

Have been communicating with Rob recently (I'm on the scrounge for some of his new fry) and thought I would take this opportunity to drop you tank details, just in case there's anything that jumps out at you as being unsuitable for the zebras:

Temp = 25 (77)
ph = 6.8
dGH = 5-10
nitrite = 0
nitrate = 10

20g community tank :

3x mollys
2x platys
3x red line torpedo barbs
1x silver shark
2x blue rams
1x male fighter
1x sunset dwarf gourami

Welcome aboard mate! I aint no expert but I think you will require a slightly warmer temp for the Zebras.... I'm sure someone else will clarify that.

The temp could do with being a little higher, around the 80-82 mark. I think the silver shark might be a little too boisterous., but maybe someone else could clarify that.

The zebras will survice at tha t temp but it would be a little risky. As far as I am aware, most of you inhabitants would do ok at a slightly higher temp.

If you're looking at breeding the zebras, I would definately advice a species tank for them. I sure you would be devistated at the thought of setting up another!!!

The silver shark (I am guessing its a Bala Shark) may just be a bit skittish for the zebras. Silver sharks really thrive in groups rather than alone but they also require larger tanks (55G minimum) tanks as they can grow rather large.... upto 14 inches.

At that adult size, and in the recommended group, I still couldnt see myself keeping them in anything smaller than an 80-100 Gallon tank.

With Zebras, I really beleive they do best in a species setup.

The bala/silver shark was always destined for a mate's 120g tank when it gets too big for my humble 20g, but I am enjoying it while it is still under 4 inches long. So that 'potential problem' is taken care of. For what its worth, it keeps itself to itself and is not aggressive with current tankmates.

I take your point on raising temp in tank, and I'll undertake some research just to satisfy myself that all will be happy with a rise of a few degrees !

I hope I will be able to set up a dedicated species tank at some point in the not too distant future, but until then I would be accommodating the wee ones in the community tank.

Cool man. Apart from the Silver shark, the rest of the tank mates should be fine... not too nippy or territorial (although Mollies are best suited to a brakish setup).... and all will be happy with the temperature increase.

As for the Silver Shark, I wouldn't expect it to be aggressive, just a little skittish.... it's just a Silver shark thang.

Do you have any pics of the Barbs? I believe these are quite new to the UK... I havent actually seen any myself. Where did you find them about mate? Would I be correct in calling them Puntius Denisonii?

I got them from Water Wonders in Gorgie Road, Edinburgh - they were £13 each but I pursuaded the guy to give me 3 for £30 He bought in 20, and there were still 10 or so left after I got my 3.

Highly recommended - I love them.

Those are very cool! I can't wait till the price starts to drop a bit.

If I have a pair out my 3, and can persuade them to get jiggy..... there may be free babies available in the future
