I do understand that Zebras need a high level of oxygen in the tanks. What is the best equipment used to produce high levels of oxygen for your zebras? What is a diffuser?

Thanks

Some folks will make an effort to insure the water is well oxygenated. I do nothing more than have HOBs and sponges. The same as on non zebra tanks. I do have more flow that does not roil the surface in the breeder tank. It is more for filtration and current.

A diffusor is used to break gasses adde to a tank- oxygen or co2- so they are in "finer bubbles" and thus more easily absorbed by the water rather than just floating to the surface.

Thanks *twotankamin*, I really appreciate your help. I have a sponge filter, hang on filter, and a canister rated at 350GPH, do you think there is enough oxygen here?

what sized tank?

our zebra tank(s) are 130L and the filters and power head in them turn over a spec'd 1658L/h

Thats nearly 13x (so about 10x when they are clean and probubly about 8x after a week or so)

What I can tell you is my breeder tank is a 36x18x17 inch 30 gal. It has a HOT Magnum (250gph), and AquaClear 150gph which also does the aeration and then a prefiltered powerhead rated at about 160gph.

It seems to be sufficient as there have been 23 spawns since the end of Apr. 06 to date.

thats 560gph on a 30gal tank so 18x.

as you can see - TTA's first comment sticks - they are not as fussy as people think.

just to add - I've also had a good number of spawns (approx 15 since Jan 07)

First of all, I want to thank everyone for responding to my topic and giving me awesome advice and tips. You guys and gals here are really helpful and friendly. I wish more forums were like this. By the way my tank is a 30 gallon, with only a couple of frys and one adult.

Thanks again,

Dee
