I have at times used breeding traps for my fry or eggs.
I have been looking on the internet for an upgrade to the basic thing I have seen tried a super flow one it was rubbish not as I expected very disapointing. I have given it a lot of thought and decided to TRY and build a super breeder trap .
My DIY skills are very poor so I was expecting it to fail but at the moment it all looks good.
I have used 2 normal floating breeders used a stanley knife to remove one side of each sanded down the rough edges and stuck together with tank sealant. I have strengthened the joints with perspex pieces stuck with sealent. Added an airstone junction and 2 airstones and huey yung air driven filter fixed with a clip and sealent stuck some sucker on the side to attach it to the main tank. It will still float when unstuck for when I do water changes. The elastic bands are on at the moment to keep it all tight will be removed before use

Why have you chopped 2 in half and stuck them together - whats wrong with using one?

I cant get a fair size filter and airstones in one and it gives more floor space for the babies to grow a little before they go back in with the colony but they are still in the same tank and water. I saw a fry saver on another site which looked really good but it is only made by a man in Australia it would be really expensive to ship which is a shame but this will do for now.

Good project, i only see one improvement to make and that's instead of the spongefilter inside mount one of these outside with the outlet above the breeder:



this way you make sure you get a good flowthrough with freshwater out of the tank and you save space in the breeder

Now that is funny I was thinking of having the filter out flow tubed to the outside of the trap so that it draws tankwater in I think I think backwards I also use one of the algarde filters the same as that with my single breed trap at the moment I will swap it over and try both if next spawning needs the trap.

John you gave me an idea granted it has taken me months to do the pratical but look what I made this time a super fry trapp more super than my last one LOL
The water is sucked in through the filter wall then out back into the tank via the air driven sponge filter. Made from perspex sealed with aquarium sealent. Cube shape no lid 3 solid side walls and one filter sponge wall with a small ledge at the bottom to retain enougth water for the fry during water changes in the main tank.
