Epipremnum pinnatum

I have now tried this plant in a tank for 24 hours. The Nitrates are down 5ppm.
I only have the roots submerged in the water, the rest of the plant is poking up through the lid on the tank.
Anybody else tried it? What's your experience?

I am trying the plant in 3 tanks, but i have smaller amounts of the plant in each tank than you.
Have not tested levels yet but shall at weekend & let you know.

The plant is a household plant, common name Devil's Ivy.
It should be available at most garden centers, only the roots are placed in the water!

The plant is growing like crazy, never seen anything like it
it does remain to be seen if it is good for the tank in the long run as I've only had it in there for 48 hours.
The Nitrates have stablized on 10ppm, so I didn't do a WC when i was home this time in this tank, just to see how things develope. I've always been a bugger for testing things out, sometimes with not a very good result (anybody remember the IR camera?
), so will keep you updated on how this plant affects the water in this tank. Even so, I do have my limits when it comes to testing things, just for the record

The plant is commonly sold as Pathos here in the US. You can actually just drop one leader into the water, rather than roots and all and it will effectively slurp up nitrates through the "air root". At least I think it's the same plant from the pictures. I know people that have even managed to grow them submerged, although I wouldn't recommend it. They definitely grow faster with most of the foliage out in the air.

PH GH and KH is unchanged.
I was expecting the roots to rot, but that hasen't happened, the roots are whiter now than they were. Looks like this plant has adjusted well to being in water. So far.

I've read that these plants can be grown hydroponically, so as long as they're getting enough nutrients, I imagine they should continue to do well in the tank. But that's just an educated guess...

I've only just realised what plant this is... Its the one I grew up with in the corner of the living room - growing up a moss pole
In my opinion a typical 80's plant
(along with a
cheese plant)
