Dear colleges,
I'm thinking of making my own caves. What kind of material can I use?
We allways talk about Slate, but normal tiles are also made from clay.
Thank you.

Normal tiles often have additives of different kinds. You'll ntice that some has a shiny and even sparkling surface, some are safe to use outdoors so forth. I believe they add different things to the clay to make the surface prettier, and to mak the tiles stronger. Others know more about this than I do.
Some tiles are ok though, I used some for the caves in the terrace tank I made what seems like a hundred years ago
Your best bet is slate, and a good guide is found here:

Good luck and let us know what you decide to do, and show us the result of course

I know that some members here have used other types of tiles to make caves. My own advice would be to go for natural slate, I wouldn't take the risk that some tiles may present.
That's a good guide that Husky Jim has posted , I missed that one.
