well all i can say its a leasson learned,i did some research about GALAXY RASBORA and decided i would get some for my zeb tank so on saterday i pre booked them and traveled off i went to collect all 13 that was left for a price of £48 quid. And a day and a half later i have found 6 tonight floating in my tank the others dont lok so good either

all i can suggest is that these fish will not tolarate the high temps of 85 degrees or fast water movement, the fish came from uda fife scotland as is known as 1 of the best fish stores in scotland and are quarteened for 2weeks b4 they go on sale so id say fish were in best of health

poor wee fish they looked so lovely.id deffently get them again if i could provide ideal condations for them

Yes- I am in process of getting some of these fish which I would like to try and breed. They need more like mid 70s temps and a slightily lower than neutral pH. I am gambling I can get them to breed in my slightly alkaline pH but am prepared to have to use ro or distilled water.

Finding out their preferred enviroment should have been first on the list.....doing so would have kept these little ones alive and probably helped slow down their endangered status some.

sorry for your loss

I think from what I remember reading on a planted tank forum and what is offered on the net zebra tanks are about 85 and what the galaxy prefer is about 10degrees less.

Live and Learn though, It could have been poor stock though.

iv got mine in a tank at 76 degrees and slight current with my cory weitzmani's and they seem to enjoy themselves. but im planning to move them into their own tank which im gona plant much more as they love cover and hopefully il try and breed them once its all sorted. got an e-mail from practical fish keeping saying this species has been over fished to almost extinction and their micro habitat where they live has been trampled by collectors.. we only found them 6 months ago! so i think its important to try and breed the ones we already have and stop importing them.

p.s i think their natural habitat is slightly alkaline water

Yep, you are correct andrew.... as nice as people think they are and with the booming planted tank craze it was a given that this was gonna happen to them.

I plan to try and breed a few of these to maybe offer to the locals but other than that there are much nicer looking "microrasboras" out there and the galaxy looks more like a deformed danio than anything.
