Shaky Hand Time (again)

Ok folks. I'm back to running round the house and shaking like an idiot. I just removed the male from the cave

I got myself a breeder to sit in the tank after a lot of reading and debating..... I have decided to separate the fry from the male and the cave.

Getting the male to come out wasn't as hard as I thought it would be, he kinda slid out without too much of a protest. I then put the cave directly into the fry trap before having a look. So I grab the little torch and what do I see......1 tiny fry in the corner of the cave. Perfectly formed....just tiny, lol.

This little guy must be around 13-16 days old judging from the development of the first fry I found (the escapee that I don't think made it either) So all n all I am very happy and feel very fortunate that my first zebra spawn was a success.

Now that the fry is on his own in the cave, placed in the breeding trap.....ya think he will venture out on his own?

Hi Dr. P

Sorry I didn't spot this post earlier, I got kinda caught up in the BULLDOG thing!!

Anywa, congradulations on your fry, and at 16 days old he will hopefully be pretty sturdy.

As for ventureing out of the cave, he may well do so. Just make sure he has a good turnover of water in and around the cave.

Have you seen any others around the tank at all, they are very good at hiding.

Cheers mate.

The trap actually has a wee spray bar on it run by an air pump and the trap itself is situated on the very front of the glass infront of the output nozzle from the external filter so the water is running through the trap pretty well. I aint the biggest fan of breeding traps but for this purpose and with this setup I am pretty happy with it.

I hope the wee guy ventures out soon as I really wanna put the cave back asap. I really didnt want to disturb the setup but I just had to move the fry and see how things were going... kinda glad I did now as I know there was more than 1 in there at one point. But for the first spawn I am well chuffed.

I have looked and looked for the wee escapee but to no avail. The idea that he may be hiding and one day apear from no-where is good enough for me, for now.

Congrats on your fry! It must be a great site in your breeding trap! :D

I think i've seen the breeding trap your using, it looks quite a clever design to me. I might get one for my ancistrus young.

Good luck. Fingers crossed your first fry that escaped turns up.

Regards

Cheers Tom. Here's a pic of the trap I am using.

The description wrote:Interpet fresh flow breeding unit made from transparent plastic. The unit is simply mounted with suction cups on the aquarium glass. By the unique fresh flow system the water will be permanently changed. With removable grill and removable divider. Dimensions (length x width x height): 197 x 90 x 110 mm. For the operation of the fresh flow system a aquarium air pump is needed
I did buy two however as I just knew there would be things I didnt like. The fittings on the chamber that holds the air defuser is pretty slack so you loose a lot of the oomph as the air escapes out the side. So on the other one I baught I have siliconed up the chamber so there will be no air loss making for a stronger current and higher turn over.
